Reviving History: Umm Ma'bad's Tent at the Hijrah Exhibition
We are thrilled to share our latest project, "Umm Ma'bad's Tent at the Hijrah Exhibition," a remarkable installation that brought the past to life at the prestigious King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture - Ithra - Dharan.
Our dedicated team, led by Emma Joyston-Bechal and Samir Ait Ahmad, meticulously designed, produced, and installed this traditional camel hair tent, using ancient weaving techniques handed down by desert women. The exterior fabric, crafted from camel hair, showcases the exceptional qualities of natural wool, offering protection from the elements and ensuring durability in the harshest conditions.
Inside the tent, you will find flooring adorned with vintage handwoven Berber carpets from the Middle and High Atlas regions of Morocco. The custom-built diwan seating, featuring ancient hand-carved Bedouin tent pegs, and cushions made from handwoven blankets, create an atmosphere that reflects the richness and cultural heritage of the camel hair tent tradition.
